NEC MTLCD2000 Monitor
Pros
Large screen, high resolution, excellent clarity and brightness
Cons
Low dot pitch
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
This is a great monitor with capability of high res (1280x1024) manufactured by one of the best monitor companies NEC.
I have been a huge fan of LCD monitors since they started being marketed to the masses. While the continue to be expensive, especially for the largest screen sizes, the smaller 15-inch monitors are becoming affordable. For the relief on your eyes, its worth shelling out another $300 to get a 15" LCD rather than a 17" or 19" CRT monitor.
Now, the NEC MTLCD2000 is a huge monitor with an amazing amount of visible screen. You will want to run this monitor at 1280x1024 to take advantage of its display capabilities. While the dot pitch is not the best quality - it is noticeable when you compare it side-by-side with one of NEC's .23dp LCD monitors - the picture is still crystal clear. The OSD display is intuitive and easy to use, with the automatic setup being sufficient for most installations.
Since I run a Matrox G400 Dual Head, the two monitors created some interference and I needed to purchase a high quality Belkin monitor cable through Outpost for $100 extra. The new cable removed the triple ghosted icons displayed. Additionally, I needed to adjust the clock and phase settings to remove some horizontal flicker.
The brightness and contrast were excellent, however, because the dot pitch is so high, I am considering downgrading to a 17" LCD with higher dot-pitch. The NEC MTLCD2000 served me well (purchased at online auction) and I am sure any enthusiast who can afford it will be satisfied. But if you want a save a few bucks and dont mind losing a little visual real estate (though you will gain in dot pitch) go a for a smaller higher resolution monitor.
