Like most women who need to return to work before they are ready to wean their babies, I researched breast pumps. And, like most women, I thought I would have to bite the bullet and buy the Medela Pump In Style in order to get a good pump. Boy, was I wrong!

The Ameda Purely Yours may not be as well-known as the Pump in Style, but it is every bit as good, and in some ways even better.

Both pumps come with an attractive tote, that has a cooler compartment for storing milk, and both pumps are convertible from double to single pumping. But the Ameda pump comes with 6 collection/storage bottles(rather than 4 with Medela), and the Ameda has variable suction and cycling dials, rather than just the 5 speed settings and 3 suction settings available on the Medela. In addition, the Ameda pump can run on the AC adaptor included with the pump, or 6 AA batteries, OR a car adaptor that you purchase separately. The Ameda is also lighter weight than the Medela.

And best of all, the Ameda has a silicone diaphragm that seals your milk away from the tubing and motor, so you never have to worry about milk backing up in the tubing, or contaminants from the tubing or motor getting into the milk!

All that, and it's less expensive too! Why would anyone buy that other pump?

This pump is fast, quiet, and comfortable. I'm very glad I chose the Ameda Purely Yours, and so is my son.
