Hollister Purely Yours Electric Breast Pump: Got Milk? You Sure Will With This Pump!

Pros (REWRITE) Everything about it is GREAT
Cons I wish the bottles were 5oz bottles rather than 4oz
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  If you're looking for a Breast Pump, don't think Medela is the only brand out there.
If you have ever pumped before you will never ever forget that sound the pump makes. Sometimes it will haunt you in your sleep when you are not looking. I chose to pump for my daughter for 7 months. She would not latch, and it was important to me for her to have breast milk. The only way she could get it is if I pumped.

I first rented a hospital grade which was bulky and heavy (about 20 lbs.). The suction was amazing on it though. I could get 7 oz out of each side, in about 15 min. So as you can see I was a slightly leery of such a small breast pump. Since my insurance company bought me my breast pump, I had NO input on what I was getting. When I went to pick it up, it was the Hollister Purely Yours.

I actually had never heard of this brand before. The only one I heard of was the Medela, so this made me even more cautious of this pump. I felt I was not getting the Cadillac of breast pumps?

Leery as I was, I went home and check this thing out. Surely it could not possibly work as well as this fancy $3,000 hospital pump. For crying out loud the Hollister only weighed 1.5 lbs.

I opened the box up and found a canvas bag with a shoulder strap and handles that was not much bigger than a bowling bag. Ok, I said, where is the pump...did they forget to put it in there. So I start unzipping all the zippers. Two half moon zippers are at the bottom of the bag, in one I find three freezer packs which have small mesh compartments keeping them in place. I also found six, four ounce milk storage containers. All with rings and discs for sterilization. The other half moon zipped compartment contained the double pumps and tubing, both compartments were completely insulated. I unzip the upper half and there is this tiny pump, complete with a plug. You can also use batteries with it, and I did while traveling. I pumped right on highway 75 down to Florida, and passer-byes were none the wiser. I sat on my couch comparing the two pumps by size. My huge hospital grade rental, and this tiny mini electric pump with a name I have never heard. No way! will they compare. So the only thing to do was give her a whirl.

I was truly amazed that the mini pump pumped exactly like the hospital grade. I was dumbfounded. How could that possibly be? I became a true believer and ended up pumping 5 months with it. The only negative drawback I could find, was the plastic pumps use two small rubber cups called diaphragms, which I believe are used in the suction part of pumping. I lost those suckers (no pun intended) three times, and luckily found them all three times. You are SUNK in you loose these, as the pump doesn't work without them. The Hollister only comes with one set, so if you are going to use your pump frequently, I highly recommend purchasing another set. My pumping days are over, but I believe my Hollister is like a Timex, or is that the Energizer Bunny? I already have three friends asking me not to sell is, as they want to "borrow" it for when they have more babies.
