The Bottom Line:
Look for a studier design.
I believe appliances in general are getting more and more cheaply made without sufficient testing. This refrigerator, the AFD2535DEW, is an example of this. The inside of the doors that hold the shelves are made out of styrofoam! Yes, the same material that you used to pour your coffee in and then crush it into the garbage. This Styrofoam is used to hold up the shelves that hold your milk cartons, your glass bottled juices and salad dressing which usually weight a good 10-20lbs on each shelf. Could Amana of picked a stronger design? Do not trust these styrofoam hinges. They will break over time. An Amana technician came to look at the damage today and said this is this 3rd time he had seen this problem with this type of refrigerator.
Best thing to do is to pay careful attention to the design of each fridge. Do an intense research on line.
The fridge does have a 1 year warranty. Sears wants another $550 to warranty it for another 5 years, which is 1/3 the costs of the fridge! Another option was to do an additional year for $150. Both which I deem to be pricey. The technician told me if this hadn't been under warranty it would of costed me $600 out of pocket to fix.
Anyways you get my point. Be careful what you buy out there. This $1500 spent that I had spent, I now feel is a mistake.
