The Bottom Line:
If you don't want to spend more than $200 on a microwave, this is one to consider.
My partner and I purchased the AMC5143 to replace our previous microwave of 18 years. I don't expect this one to last nearly that long but we've had it for two months now and it has worked well so far. I can't speak to how well the myriad of features work since all we really do is enter an amount of time and push start, but I can say that it's powerful. It heats evenly and quickly and serves our needs well.
Be aware that even though the finish is described as "stainless steel" it's really plastic. I suppose that's what one gets in a microwave costing less than $200. It has a variety of "chimes that alert you when the heating is done. We find the chimes, some of which are actually songs, annoying. Unfortunately it doesn't have an option for a simple, innocuous beep so we turned the chimes off so that it doesn't make any sound at all.
The handle seems a bit flimsy but it has held up so far and seems more reliable than the push-button door releases of some other models. Based on our limited experience looking at other models, this seems like one of the better units in its price range. So far we have been please with our purchase.
