The Bottom Line:
This is the way to go as long as you can get past the menus. Learning curve is there but is worth it
Many radio stations are available on the internet. This radio allows you to listen to stations all around the world and to organize them. You create an account online and using the address of your radio, which is on the bottom of the radio you create a favorite list and it works well.
The radio has both wired and wireless capabilities. For the wireless it supports encryption but it likes to have the SSID (network name) broadcast as well as DHCP running on your router. For most people this is not an issue for me it was. My Dish DVR user powerline Ethernet (Ethernet using your home wiring) so I just chose to use the wired Ethernet adapter with a powerline adapter. It takes a little bit of practice to get the hand of navigating the menus, but it is not too bad given the large amount of data available.
Many radio stations are supported but ones that use FLASH are not compatible so the station you like may not be on the list.
The display is too bright which is kind of a shame since you can use it as an alarm clock but don't try to see what time it is during the night, as you will have to turn the display off in order to sleep.
Sound quality is very good as far as no static and the speaker is not bad. If you are looking for CD quality music you will need external speakers.
The AIRMM01F is not small and the speaker is pretty large compared to a clock radio but it is not bread box huge.
You will probably have a hard time finding the unit in stores but you can find it online at Amazon and other places for 100.00 or so and Amazon has a great return policy. Aluratek tech support was quick (1 Day) when I emailed them about not broadcasting my SSID.
The included remote works well but does not seem to be well designed. The remote is a typical TV type remote with a full numeric keypad but the volume up down buttons are part of the bottom 3 rows of buttons rather than being a separate set of 2 buttons?
IF you have lived other places or like radio stations not in your local area OR Like specific type of radio Alt Rock Old Time Radio (me) OR just don't get good reception where you want to listen to radio. Then this is a great alternative. I listen to San Diego, LA, San Francisco and Boston stations as well as Old time radio ones.
This is a great gift for one of those people that has everything or just buys it themselves. Internet Radios are a hidden Gem that are just not that mainstream YET!
USB port allows you to listen to your own music and you can share music from your PC to your radio.
