The Bottom Line:
Quality portable sound at a reasonable price.
I bought this about 2 wks. ago for use with my 1st gen iTouch & my wife's 3rd gen Nano. Both dock without a problem. The system comes with iPod adapters which insure a secure connection. The system is about 13" long, 6" high and 2 1/4" thick, with the handle folded down, so it will be easy to pack for trips. The handle doubles as a way to carry the system & as a base. The system sits very firmly on any flat service. There is also a telescopic FM antenna which folds down to the rear of the system when not in use. There is an AC adapter jack & AUX jack in back. Included in the box are a remote & AC adapter. Not included are printed instructions. You have to go to alteclansing.com/info for that. You also have to register the product through that site.
The system plays out of the box using the AC adapter. It takes about 4 hrs. to fully charge the battery the 1st time. I'm getting about 5 hrs. playing time on a full charge. The multi remote is about 4" x 1 1/2" & very thin. There is a place in the back of the system where it can be stored when not in use. It comes with a lithium battery that is easy to install. It's been working well. I'm not sure what the maximun range is. The furthest I've been away from the unit when I use it is about 10'. You can turn the system on or off, control the volume, source, iPod mute, pause, track forward or back, access your iPod menu, activate the Expanded Sound Stage (ESS) mode to, "fill a room with sound" according to the insturctions. ESS has little or no effect to the sound quality on my system. Personally, the remote is too small in my opinion. The AUX jack can be used to play other MP3's, although I've never used it. There is no way to adjust bass, balance, etc. through the system.
My biggest complaint with this system is that it has a black on black design, making the controls on the unit, specifically, on off, source, volume up or down, track up or down, nearly invisible. I believe this system also comes in a silver design, which might eliminate that problem.
That said, this system does what it is supposed to do - provide quality portable sound at a reasonable price for use with my iPods. The audio is full and rich & I've never had the need to pump up the volume anywhere near max. I'm also very satisfied with the quality and range of the FM radio.
