The Bottom Line:
It's great if you need a small, portable docking system for iPod.
At first glance, it's just another portable music player. It was to me when I first got it at Best Buy, and I'm never disappointed there. Upon attempting to open the device, it proved a difficult task: there's a small button in the middle that releases the iPod dock.
Basically, the whole thing is one giant speaker. This makes for some pretty decent sound quality. One of the better features of this product is its portability. It's fairly light, and it folds up to create a smooth, thin box. You plug your iPod in the bottom dock, and right next to it, is an easily reachable volume control. This is necessary, seeing as it's impossibly hard to control volume from the iPod itself when it's docked. On top, it has small buttons that allow you to change the song with ease. A bonus: the fold-out dock feature also creates a useful stand to easily keep the device upright.
This product, like many portable speaker systems, also doubles as a portable radio. The reception can be good or bad, but use of the radio is handy.
Altec Lansing usually makes good technology, and this product is no different. Due to the price, it's only worth it for strictly portable uses.
