Excellent Portable iPod Speaker System

The Bottom Line:
If you need a sturdy, portable speaker system with a dock to sync up with a computer, this is the best I've seen.
The Altec Lansing IM600 is a great portable dock/speaker system for the iPod. First thing you'll notice is that it is compact and dock portion folds up nicely. The antenna is connected to the IM600 and telescopes outward. The remote can be stored in the pack part of the IM600. The metal grilles over the speakers are extremely sturdy. You can pack the IM600 in the ole suitcase and not worry about the speakers or antenna being damaged, and the remote will be tucked away in the back compartment. The connections are plenty. It has a standard 3.5mm aux plug for other mp3 players. The IM600 can be hooked up via USB to sync the iPod with your PC. There is also a video out. The battery life is amazing. Usefully when outside away from a wall plug. When plugged in, it will charge the IM600 battery and iPod. My 5th gen video iPod (80GB) fit snug in the dock.
On a bad note, don't expect to pick up you favorite radio station. The FM tuner isn't very good. I can only pick up 1 out of my 5 usual stations I listen to in the car. The sound is good and better than any portable speaker I've heard (the key word is portable); however, you won't get a deep bass response. The remote functions are very basic, mostly just volume control and switching between songs within a playlist or grouping.
In short, great to take on the road for use in a hotel or outside. The sound is good, but don't expect to hear deep sound. Great overall portable iPod speaker system.
