ACS495--A Gamer/Multimedia Fanatic's Dream Speakers

Yes
The Altec Lansing ACS495 speakers are little wonders. These speakers are great for just about anyone who is looking for superb sound quality, but isn't looking to spend as much money as some of the more (hugely) costly speaker systems. This is really a great way to get Surround Sound quality from your PC.
Sound quality
The ACS495 come with 2 speakers (each with center and surround speakers) and a powerful subwoofer. The sound quality of these speakers is incredible. While playing games (especially if you are planning on, or have, invested in an A3D compatible sound card), you really feel you're there. I know that's hard to imagine with cartoonish PC games such as Quake 3, but its true. Computer graphics have been great for years, but sound has lagged behind. The ACS495 speakers really bring gaming to a new front, engrossing you from the very first minute you start playing. The same goes with audio CDs and MP3s. Anything with a high bitrate will sound absolutely amazing with these speakers (its hard to imagine, but true).
Interface
The interface for these speakers is through a USB connection. All sound settings including bass, speaker channel volumes (for center speakers, surround speakers, and subwoofer). The great GUI eliminates any need to stretch over to your speaker's volume nob to control things. The graphical interface is very reliable and easy to use, residing in the bottom right corner of your monitor for you to access whenever you need to.
Overall
These speakers are overall one of the greatest values on the net. The speakers were absolute top of the line about a year ago, and now are still just INCREDIBLE! Except now, there are great values on these tiny powerhouses. For the best price, I would search www.pricewatch.com or www.buycomp.com. Overall, these speakers will give you a tremendous bang for your buck.
