Almost Famous is Absolutely Fabulous
I missed out on the grand old days of rock & roll. As I started developing an interest in my own music, disco was king. I soon got past that and found the early 80's new wave and punk, along with true rock music from before the disco era.
So maybe what I like so much about this movie is...

Stillwater Runs Deep in Cameron Crowe's Rock-and-Roll Anthem
Almost Famous might just be the greatest rock-and-roll movie ever made (with apologies to Grease, The Rose and This is Spinal Tap). It is certainly one of the greatest movies of 2000?twelve months that are shaping up as the Year of the Cineplex Wasteland.
As we head into the season of...

Crowe's Love Letter to Music in Almost Famous!
What a great movie this was! This is based on Cameron Crowe's teen years when he became the youngest reporter for Rolling Stone Magazine. He was only 15 years old at the time and got to travel with some of the best known rock groups of the 1970's, such as Led Zeppelin, the Allman Brothers Band, the... Read full review »
Almost Famous: Dignity on the Periphery of Stardom
Cameron Crowe?s latest directorial effort, Almost Famous, may be characterized by some as a film about a fictional seventies rock band, Stillwater, and their quest for fame. However, Almost Famous is actually about the emotional dynamics of the people surrounding a band that?s hovering on the cusp... Read full review »
The Great Almost
The plot:
In 1973, Lester Bangs (Philip Seymour Hoffman) gives 15 year old William Miller (Patrick Fugit) advice on how to be a rock journalist. He tells him to have a good time, be honest, and don?t make friends with the band.
When William gets a dream assignment with Rolling Stone...

Sex,Drugs,Rock 'n Roll=Almost Famous, almost a Perfect Movie
Watching "Almost Famous" was one of those rare movie experiences, where I continued to sit in the theatre, reading all the rolling credits at the end, and wishing I could watch it again, right then.
I didn't want it to be over. This semi-documentary, written and directed by Cameron Crowe,...

Do you know who your friends are?
"Almost Famous" is the story of a fifteen year old guy named William Miller (played by Patrick Fugit) who wants to be a rock and roll journalist. William has always been a precocious child. In fact, his mother Elaine (played by Frances McDormand) actually lied to him about his own age in order to... Read full review »
"It's all part of my rock-n-roll fantasy..."
Because Jerry Maguire was such a big money-making, Oscar-nominated hit, writer/director Cameron Crowe (Singles, Say Anything) earned enough Hollywood clout to garner a green light for a questionable project: Almost Famous, a semi-autobiographical film about a 15-year-old boy who has a chance to... Sliding Effortlessly and Enchantingly from Virginity to a Menage a Quatre
It wasn't the unfortunate name of actor Billy Crudup that kept me from watching this film when it initially came out; it was the name of writer/director Cameron Crowe. I associate 'Cameron' with James Cameron, director of Titanic. Strike one. I associate 'Crowe' with Russell Crowe, star of... Read full review »
Rolling Stone Cover for Coming of Age Tale
I just saw one of the year?s top ten movies last night. How high Almost Famous eventually ranks depends on the quality of the films to be released this fall, but if they are better than this, film buffs may overdose from cinematic ecstasy. I certainly enjoyed myself, and I think most people who... Read full review »

Almost Famous - Dvd
Cameron Crowe's career trajectory reads like a true Hollywood story--he started out as a 15-year-old writing for Rolling Stone magazine and eventually ended up writing, directing, and acting in movies. His poignant writing style reflects the nostalgia and humor of an era, with bits of pop culture and musical history and trivia woven in. This has proven to be a highly successful formula, as in the 1989 emo love story SAY ANYTHING, and the '90s grunge rocker hit SINGLES. Crowe's ALMOST FAMOUS is a semiautobiographi cal account that tells the story of a teen journalist, William Miller (Patrick Fugit), who goes on the road with an up-and-coming rock band called Stillwater. Though Miller's mentor, legendary rock critic Lester Bangs (portrayed with humor and heart by Philip Seymour Hoffman), cautions him not to befriend the musicians, Miller takes it a step further and befriends both the band and the Band-Aids--the girls who hang around with the band because they love the music. Miller is in for a wild ride around t

Miller is in for a wild ride around the country to thrilling concerts and debauched backyard parties living the life many 15-year olds dream about. He discovers that beneath the glittery faade of rock stardom are sometimes bittersweet life lessons and mild doses of heartbreak. More impacting are the friendships he finds with his glamorous travel companions. Newcomer Fugit is the perfect William Miller: baby-faced slightly gawky and an awestruck observer. Kate Hudson sparkles as Penny Lane the leader of the Band-Aids and Frances McDormand delivers a stellar performance as Elaine Miller's protective and mildly paranoid mother. In the tradition of SAY ANYTHING and JERRY MAGUIRE Crowe's coming-of-age tale is intelligent well-written and memorable.
