The Bottom Line:
Buy it... use it... lower your carbon footprint, and save money along the way.
I purchased this switch (Air King AKDT60) for our main floor bathroom. The idea was that, whenever I used the bathroom, I would leave and just set the timer to evacuate the air. Before getting the switch, I would set the fan and then forget about it and often it would run far too long... up to an hour. This is bad for many reasons: it wastes electricity; it uses the fan motor for far longer than it needs to run and so it will fail earlier in its life than it has to; and worst of all... since I live in Texas and the air conditioner is often on, so every cubic foot of air that is evacuated from the bathroom has to be replaced with outside, non air-conditioned air. This ends up being a very expensive process in the end (of course, the same can be said for northern climates where the air is heated). Enter the timer switch... it is the perfect solution. Up for on... middle for off... down for timer. I have set the timer to be about the amount of time that it will make a bathroom that definitely needs the fan on, to smell fresh again. If I don't need it, I just turn it back off when I leave.
There is nothing to dislike about this product. It works well. When I bought it, I recall seeing a review that mentioned a clicking sound. That one must have been defective, because this switch only clicks when turning off or on. The rest of the time, it makes no sound. The one thing I recall from installation is that the potentiometer that adjusts the timer time is turned all the way one way when it is coming out of the box. Be gentle with the screwdriver when you turn it, because if you are already at the limit and try to turn it more, you may damage it. Instead, just gently try rotating it one way or the other and that will tell you which end it is at (I can't recall).
If you can replace a light switch, you can install this switch.
