Wow!, A new Age and New Options

Pros Great Storyline, Good AI, Flexable Play options
Cons lot like previous game
Recommended it? Yes
I found this new swing on an old game quite refreshing. The new graphics and new civilizations, it was really amazing. The new Artificial Intelligence was really a refreshing opponent compared to AOE 1. I was really impressed with the graphics espically. The new formation options and the buildings that allow you to build super warriors like the long Bowman or Celtic warriors, Viking Axemen etc. Most are made from a castle or like structure where they can congregate to either ward off attack or defend the towns folk. There is even a option to choose all opponents as neutral so a trade relationship can be followed. If you choose this option remember the best offense is a good defense. Even if you have a neutral stance you need to have defensive troops or a sturdy wall to ward off unwanted attack. The graphic engine is not gauged out of the older PC's So if you are like me and have an older P2 166 and are finding some of the newer games are disappointing because you don't have a 3D card or Graphics accelerator. Well not to worry, this game is friendly enough that you will have lots of fun because this allows fast operation and link/web play with a p166 or faster, without the need for a graphics card. To me the other big advantages are the chess type of play, where you have to plan and advance up the technology tree not to fast, as to disable your ability to keep growing as a civilization but allows you to keep researching new items like chain mail armor or fuedlislim, Don't disregard the historical importance of the a seagoing power. Historically those civilizations are the ones that progressed quicker. You will not need as many towns people to maintain a food production or trade route. You will however need to build adequate housing for these units. This was a great sequel to the a great game. This will allow you to learn history better and have a deeper understanding on how these civilizations had to overcome not only the struggles of just starting a civilization but the difficulties of keeping it from falling to another conquer who might come along.
