Microsoft extending its monopoly into strategy games...

Pros Graphics, AI, complexity
Cons Opponent AI,
Recommended it? Yes
I can't believe it, but Microsoft did something right!

Hands down, this is the best multiplayer strategy-based war-game. If you liked the first Ages, you will LOVE this one. I would like to point out several aspects of this finely-tuned piece of artwork that put Blizzard's simplistic cartoon-like war/starcraft to shame.

1st. Complexity. As in the first Ages, there are 8 races all with their own strengths and weaknesses. Next is the need for gold, stone, wood and food, rather than just one or two staples in other games such as command and conquer or starcraft. The number of units available are astounding from infantry to siege weapons.

2nd. Formations. Instead of lining up like cows to the slaughter, your units will move in a formation of your choosing (their are four choices).

3rd. Necessity of a well rounded army. In other games of this type, usually it is possible to make a hundred of the strongest type of character, then go trounce the opposing player. In this game it is key to use the different players to their advantage and launch a well-planned attack, intstead of "bum-rushing" your opponent.

Improvements from the first ages are the coloring and AI. In the first game I found it hard to distinguish myself from my opponent. I don't know, maybe I'm blind, but this made me play the game a few times, then discard it. Second, the AI is much better in this game- you can move your men in formations (as I mentioned before) And you can set them to many different levels of attack from aggressive (as I call Kamikaze) to no attack (sit there and kick me till I bleed.)

A downfall as I have seen in every game of this type, is the computer is not very fun to play against. They'll attack strong in the beginning (and if you are on the hardest setting with enough opponents, it can be almost impossible to beat them back). However, once you get walls and towers up and you've survived the first wave or two- they wont attack in force again, and then you can slowly wail on them.

PS: Some cheats are as follows [cheese steak jimmy's = 1000 food]
[robin hood]: 1000 gold [lumberjack = 1000 wood] [rock on = 1000 stone]
