Age Of Empires II - Age of Kings
Pros
Excellent AI, good graphics, great weapons
Cons
viewable area shrunk
Recommended it?
Yes
For those who love Age Of Empires, there is a new version in the stores. Age of Kings.
This is basically the same game with some needed enhancements.
1. New civilzations
2. FORMATIONS, you can now choose from 4 advanced formations for you armies
3. Better graphics(but can be annoying - see later note about size)
4. New taunts
5. Better AI, the computer now comes at you from different angles
6. Great new weapons!!! And armies.
Overall if you liked Age you'll like Age II. They have made the graphics a lot better, but something bugs me about them. The size of the buildings is WAY to big. Unlike Age, Age II buildings take up the entire screen, making it a bit hard to view an entire battle scene. But now your peasants and military can walk through a "construction zone". However this is also true for your enemy, so a designed wall will not hold them off, it must be built.
Speaking of walls...AGE II has GATES!!!!! These allow you to construct a full wall around you town but allow your characters, as well as your allies, unrestricted access to your town. This rules.
Some neat little features. You can ring the town Bell in case of attack and all your peasants run to the nearest designated "safe house" where they weather the storm. You military may now enter a safe house and be "cured" of their ailments. And you can fix military weapons with your peasants. You can also use waypoints, and flag where you want any newly created characters to walk to when they are "born". This is a nice way to make you army walk right up to the gates of your enemy. Speaking of gates, there are even some new weapons to bring down your opponents gates(battering rams)....
Overall this is a great upgrade. The only drawback is the viewable area, I grew accustomed to playing AGE at 1024 and seeing a whole lot more than I can see at AGE II 1024.
