I loved this game from the moment I set eyes on it.
Pros
Hours of fun, scenario builder makes for even more fun, very easy to configure for LAN
Cons
Too many cheat codes
Recommended it?
Yes
While learning the ins and outs of the game may be fairly daunting, isn't that what makes a good game? Difficulty?
Once you get the hang of it though, it becomes a lot of fun. Who can outthink who? Should I attack him now while he doesn't have a lot of people, or build up my tech and wait... The game is full of life and death decisions that must be made quickly. Any time you spend thinking and not acting is time wasted, and in this game, time wasted pretty much equals game over, and you aren't the victor.
Once you're done playing the scenarios they give you, there's even MORE fun to be had with the scenario design option! One of the things we like doing is designing various scenarios for OTHER people to play on the LAN... They have no idea where anything is, and we like to throw in different difficulties, such as your town is locked in by trees, and you must hack your way out in order to get anywhere...
Very easy to configure the game to play over a local area network too, I was very pleasantly surprised to find that it just about configures itself!
On the downside, I think there are far too many cheat codes... What is the fun in running around nuking a bunch of stone age villagers?
