The Conquerors conquers what the game left out!

Pros Finally smart villagers & farm re-seeding, new civilizations & new warriors
Cons easy is too easy, hard is way too hard!
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  The Conquerors takes a superb game and makes it better and more user-friendly.
I am a huge fan of the original Ages of Empires II: Age of Kings. It was the first war/strategy game I purchased that I actually liked. However, the game did have noticeable flaws, like having to participate in each action of building your civilization. However, Microsoft & Ensemble Studios got smarter, and so did AOE 2, with Ages of Empires II: The Conquerors.

The Conquerors starts out just as the old game did, save for a new intro movie. You may notice that even though the Conquerors is installed on your PC, when using the original AOE 2 CD, you cannot use any new civilizations from the expansions. However, when you pop in the Conquerors CD, you can use all of the civilaztions and landscapes from the original title, plus the new expansion civilizations and landscapes. If you choose to play scenarios, the expansion also has 4 new campaigns.

Most definitely, the best feature the original AOE 2 had to offer was the Death Match fight. The Death Match is when you choose 1 or more civilaztions to battle against, and you start the game with huge stockpiles of materials to help quickly build a superior civilization.

The gameplay lacked a little in AOE 2: AOK. Why? Although your civilization made advances in research, your villagers did not get smarter. Every time a farm was exhausted, it had to be manually reseeded. Every time a villager was done mining for gold or stone, or chopping wood, the villager would have to be redirected to another task. Also when building a mining or lumber camp, a villager wouldn't automatically mine or chop wood.

The Conquerors fixes all of these bugs. Farms can be auto re-seeded, after villagers build a camp, they mine, and once they are done mining, they find a new spot for more materials.

The Conquerors also brings new warriors to the game. My favorite happens to be a new warrior you can create once you become very advanced. This particular soldier you can create from your Castle, and he has the power to walk up to a building and kill himself, strapped with an explosive device. These guys are extremely effective against destroying cities. Make sure to send them on a siege with your battering rams and trebuchets.

AOE 2: The Conquerors took a great game and made it smarter, and better. New features, soldiers, and smart villagers all make for a more enjoyable experience from an already outstanding game!
