The Bottom Line:
Great film for the kiddies and people that buy fur coats
We turned it on, and for some reason, the minute that cute cat appeared on the screen my daughter started giggling. Then the even cuter pug nosed dog showed up and she giggled some more. The whole movie went by and she giggled the entire time. This is from a two year old that already has two dogs and a cat at home, none of which ever make her giggle. So, what is it about this movie?
Well, I'm guessing it's pretty darn fun to watch fluffy animals up there doing things that kids like to do. Such as, running around and jumping on each other, riding across a river in a box, playing in a field... catching fish. Okay, kids don't get to ride across a river in a box, but they want to. That's also the appeal, these animals get to go wherever they want to go and do whatever they want to do. And there are NO adults in the movie telling them to behave. Nada.
Only, sometimes I was quite shocked by what was happening to these poor animals. Sure, sure... they were trained and someone was always there to keep them safe and all that. But what dog or cat IN THIS WORLD enjoys being halfway drowned by a bear? And have you ever seen a feline that likes to be thrown down a waterfall into rapids? Ummmm, not me. Heck, my cat hates getting her whiskers wet. All I can say is, those animals better have gotten some sweet moola for making this film. Many times I cringed, then gasped and almost downright cried for the pets. All the while having a two year old giggle in front of me.
The plot: In a barn lives a mischievous cat, Milo and roly poly dog, Otis. They meet, become best buddies and join each other is a set of wild adventures both in the barnyard and the land beyond. Filmed somewhere in beautiful Japan, your child will enjoy the landscape as much as the action at the forefront. Can Otis save Milo from getting into too much trouble, without getting into even more trouble himself?
So, what can I say? My kid loves it, we're keeping the DVD, but thank God for current laws against animal cruelty.
