The Future of Video Games
Pros
The Best Quality Graphics ever made.
Cons
None.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
This is it, the best video game ever made.
I am a big fan of ID's video games. They are up there amongst the all time greats, like Half Life & Far Cry & Call of Duty. DOOM 3 is the latest of ID's extremely well produced software.
I think Doom 3 is groundbreaking stuff & is undoubtedly the future of Video Games for several reasons.
First of all there is the quality of the graphics. This is the best looking game ever. Only Half Life 2 can challenge it, if they ever release it !!! There are some effects in the game which have never been done before. Such as the shadows cast by swinging lights. All this adds to the special eerie quality that I can honestly say has never been matched. ( I have played every First Person shooter made in the last 12 years ).
Secondly theres the music & sound effects. Incredible is a word that describes it. Such creative skill I have not encountered since System Shock 2 & that pales into insignificance compared to Doom 3. There are times in the game where you do not want to turn the next corner for fear. Fear thats induced by the sounds emanating from the next room.
Thirdly there are the baddies. So well crafted by the developers this is a work of love. I am proud to say the ID Developer guys are the most skillfull in the business. Only Valve HQ are up there at the heights of softwares cutting edge, & possibly the makers of the yet unreleased STALKER. The baddies in DOOM 3 are terrifyingly realistic. When they jump out of the shadows you will jump out of your seat.
Finally I must talk about the plot. Its a bit shallow but fits this type of game well. The game is set on a base on Mars. Where an experiment is being conducted. The experiment goes wrong & a portal is opened into HELL. Demons & Beasts are released from HELL into this World. Some of these have possessed Soldiers based on Mars. The whole mix is very scary. My only complaint is that it sounds a bit like Half Life ( Sorry Guys ). Your job is to blast your way through this mayhem & just survive. Missions are given to you but essentially all you care about is staying alive.
You will need a monster PC to run this game correctly but thats progress. I recommend a 2.5 Gig processor & a Geforce 5900 video card or better, plus at least 512 MB of Ram.
