Doom 3 - A Cyberdemon amongst Imps

Pros Atmospheric, Scary, Graphically Amazing, Enjoyable Gameplay, and Soon-there-will-be Great Mods.
Cons You need a top-quality PC. No in-game map feature, weak multiplayer, kinda short.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Buy this game if your PC can handle it. If not to just gawk at the amazing graphics, then to immerse yourself in a horrifying and adrenalin-pumping game experience.
Sure, Doom 3 isn't a perfect game. That being said, it's the new standard for all first person shooters.
Why?
THE GRAPHICS. The textures and 3d rendered characters are awe-inspiring. Everything you see in this game makes you lean back from your computer in awe at how much of a step up from previous FPS's this game has come. The shadows, the lighting, the smooth animations of ferocious hellbeasts.
THE ATMOSPHERE. So dark. Very hard to see at times without your trusty flashlight. The game cost is almost worth the scares this inventory item can cause. Once you use your flashlight to snoop around a dark corner of a hallway, only to see a walking rotten corpse attacking you from nowhere.. Yeesh.
THE GAMEPLAY. Run n' gun. We've all seen this before, and id software let's us know why we love it so much. You're going to be shooting lots of hellspawn to get your way through this game, no matter what difficulty you pick. Also, the puzzles in this game are more fun than the FPS genre has seen in a while. The character picks up abandoned PDA's that have been dropped by Mars Colony residents to figure out codes to storage boxes, and listening to their audio logs and reading their personal e-mail is an interesting way to find your way though the games puzzles. I've heard some complaints about the short length of the game, but it'll take you a good 10-15 hours to get through at least. It's not Final Fantasy, but its not boring like that either.
THE SOUND. Scary noises. Satisfying gun sound effects(no more annoying plasma gun "ping-ping-ping-ping" from Doom 1 and 2). Eerie backgrounds. Rockin' title theme recorded by Tool. Creepy whispers from the dark ("come over heeeere...." ). And decent quality voice acting, when you take into account most video game voice acting-- nothing extraordinary though.
THE MODS. Just looking at this game, you know there will be amazing mods for it soon enough, so stay tuned to the internet near you.
----Whats the catch? Well, the gameplay can get a little bit repetitive, but there's a new type of monster or weapon often enough to keep you interested. The multiplayer mode is seriously lacking. There's no in-game map feature(but at least each room has a name so you won't be going in circles). The story isn't the best, but hey! There's a story! That's new for Doom. And those with weaker computers will have to upgrade. But that's your fault for being a cheapskate or broke.
