Fantastic Physics Leads to Realistic Game Play
Pros
Realistic Actions of NPCs, graphics, speed
Cons
A bit short in length (single player mode)
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Fantastic graphics and sound make for an enjoyable experience.
I purchased a new playstation 3 as well as call of duty 4 for myself this holiday season. I do not regret either decision. I owned and played the latest version (call of duty 3) before owning this game, and I can tell you that there is substantial improvements in the newer game.
Graphics
The graphics of this game are superior to most games on the market. Combined with realistic game physics (what playstation 3 is known for), you are surrounded in realistic worlds with realistic interactions with all characters that you come across. Even to the point where you can accidentally kill your friendly teammates. Though it is a bit difficult at first, it is definitely an improvement over games that your computer teammates can not be injured by your actions. The level of detail (grass, hills, water) rivals that of high end computer platforms with powerful video cards. The load time before levels was minimal, which keeps you in the action longer.
Sound
The sounds/voice in the game is excellent. One of the coolest features is that your commanding officer is giving you instructions throughout the game, so you are actually forced to pay attention to what they are telling you to do. Explosions and gunshots sound very realistic. However, I wish the game did a better job with 5.1 channel audio so that you could use your ears to determine the direction of an attack, rather than the indicator on the screen.
Depth of game
Though I completed the game in about 6.5 hours of gameplay (at medium setting), there really was a decent amount of levels, maps, missions, etc. Every level and mission is a completely new experience. There is even a level that you are in an airplane, providing support to the infantry. This level was probably the most enjoyable, and I wish they had included more like it in the game. I did finish the game rather quickly, and was left wishing for a longer game, but all in all it has a lot of great content. Of course, once complete you can play any mission again, or take advantage of the online play for a new experience each time.
