Pros Max Payne + John Woo = awesome
Cons occasionally looks cheap, some framerate issues, only 6 hours long
Recommended it? Yes

John Woo Presents Stranglehold goes into the interesting genre of video-game movies that aren't straight adaptations and is actually a nifty piece of work. Even though it only took me a paltry six hours to run through the game and it offers little replay value- it's an entertaining game and worth... Read full review »

::John Woo's gaming debut is a blast::

Pros Entertaining, jaw-dropping explosions.
Cons Short single player experience, multiplayer is a bust.
Recommended it? Yes

Now I'm not going to sit here and tell you that John Woo is a brilliant filmmaker. I think arguments can be made that he knows how to put together an entertaining action flick albeit it may be missing some serious IQ. Stranglehold came onto the scene recently for the Xbox 360 and immediately caught... Read full review »

Stranglehold - A worthy successor to Hardboiled

Pros loads of action, solid gameplay, great sound effects
Cons short, bland multiplayer, gets repetitive
Recommended it? Yes

If you ask the average moviegoer who John Woo is, they might be able to tell you about some of his American films like Face/Off, Windtalkers, Mission Impossible 2 and so forth. But only a few real cinema buffs can say they've seen Woo's original Hong Kong films such as A Better Tomorrow. Of all the... Read full review »

Tearin' Up Hong Kong on the Xbox360

Pros John Woo movies meet video gaming in this outrageously violent shoot-em-up
Cons Gameplay is a 3 trick pony. Forgettable Multiplayer.
Recommended it? Yes

Stranglehold is based on a John Woo movie named Hard boiled which many of us Hong Kong action movie buffs have probably seen. The plot of the movie -like the plot of this game - focuses on the relationship between a cop and an undercover cop taking on HK's triads. The stories in John Woo movies are... Read full review »

Stranglehold: Bloodshed Is His Only Option

Pros An experience true to Woo's operatic style and the "Hard Boiled" universe.
Cons Some may not appreciate that.

Review of the Limited Collector's Edition

Videogames can be the most entertaining form of media available if interesting ideas are put into the right hands. 2001's "Max Payne" and its 2003 sequel, "Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne," managed to take the magic captured in Honk Kong action... Read full review »

Pros Great gunfighting
Cons Short with no incentive to replay (Though I did, strangely)
Recommended it? Yes

Various games try to capture Max Payne and Matrix-style gameplay to varied results. One of the good things about modern gaming's need to churn out games for a quick dollar is that today there are really good used titles you can find for a budget price that often have very little artistic merit or... All style, very little substance

Pros animations are solid, and the showdowns are intense and very cool.
Cons The game just lacks polish in some areas (the sliding is odd). Not much fun.
Recommended it? No

This game was a rental of a friend of mine, and I got to sit down with it for a few hours and give it a good play through.

Graphics: I actually thought many of the graphics and animations looked pretty good. Some of the character models could look better, but there is plenty of movement... Read full review »

Pros Graphics, Challenging
Cons None submitted
Recommended it? Yes

A great surprise.  I had a lot of fun with this game.  An interesting and unique use of the Unreal engine.

Some parts of the game will have you banging your head off of the wall because they are difficult, but you get a great feeling of satisfaction when you finally beat... Read full review »
