Cutest and lightest under-$400 Windows XP net book

Pros Great looks, good performance for its small size, Ultra Light weight, reasonably fine Ergonomics
Cons Poor battery life, Absence of Bluetooth and optical drive, scratch prone body
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:

A net book with killer looks, which is easy on your pocket without compromising on performance. A must have for easy and quick mobility.

Lightest and cutest of them all
Weighing a little over a kilogram the Aspire One is the lightest and most good looking net book PC amongst the net books in its segment. The overall construction of the Aspire One is rock solid with well-rounded edges, though the screen hinges feel a little fragile. Apart from its gorgeous looks, the Aspire One isn't quite resistant to scratches and its glossy finish attracts a lot of fingerprints that spoils the overall look. The Aspire One has good keys which are rather well-spaced out for its tiny size (24.8x2.9x17 cm), but function and arrow keys are quite small as compared to other net books in its segment, which is a shame. Unfortunately, the keyboard occupies a lot of space and the touchpad is a bit small. The Aspire One has a rectangular touchpad with the buttons placed on either sides rather than the bottom, making it a little uncomfortable to operate the mouse.

Configuration and Features
It is powered by the Intel Atom N270 processor running at 1.6 GHz placed on a Mobile Intel 945G SE chipset. Though the Atom processor won't break any speed barriers, it otters a pretty decent online experience with the flexibility of connecting wirelessly. The Aspire One is bundled with 1 GB of DDR2 memory and 120 GB of storage space. Equipped with a screen size of 8.9 inches, one could find it a tad small when compared to the 10-inch screen of the other notebooks. This machine comes with in-built Windows XP Home Edition.
The Aspire One has a 10/100 Ethernet and WLAN b/g network adapters, a VGA port and three USB ports. The Aspire One has two memory card slots; one is multi format slot while the other supports only SD cards. What I didn't like about the machine
The biggest drawback would be its poor performing 3-cell lithium-ion battery, which is rated at 2,200 mAh and has a backup time of approximately two and a half hours only. Other limitation of the machine is the absence of an optical drive and Bluetooth. This net book might look attractive to you but its glossy body is very much prone to scratches. Wait till it is 2 months old and you will find the glossy touch wearing out.

What you will find in the Device Package
You will find only the machine with no protective sleeve or a cleaning cloth. The package doesn't even have any disk recovery and there is no software and drivers.

Value for money
Acer Aspire One is the cheapest net book of all others in this segment but not that bad a performer if we ignore its battery life for once.

Conclusion
The Acer Aspire One is a great notebook to work on but its short battery backup is a matter of concern. You would rather spend a little more and invest on the MSI Wind which is an equally good performer opt for the Asus Eee PC which sports better a feature set.
