Purchased largely because of Acer's $40 rebate on the then-$89 scanner, I was amazed at the quality of the scanner AND its terrific interface program, Mirascan.
Shortly after I purchased this little gem for home use, my cheapskate boss bought us a Scanjet by H-P with a document feeder and a (ridiculous plastic piece of junk) transparency scanner. The interface (H-P proprietary) sucks, the scanner is not nearly as reliable or fast as the Acer, and the software bundle was positively cheap and disappointing when compared to what Acer must be marketing at near-dumping prices.
Why do people insist on bad-mouthing good deals in this country? I have read many negative opinions on Acer in the "professional" glossies, yet everything I have bought from that company has functioned as well as expected or better, been reliable and good value for money... just because it doesn't say Dell on the box or have cows painted on it doesn't mean it isn't as good or better than...
And by the way, Dell makes some pretty terrible computers (I use one at work every day and it is worse that a Yugo!)
