Night in Casablanca

In their last film together, the Marx brothers pull out all the stops. A Nazi treasure is hidden inside of a Casablanca Hotel, and three hotel managers in a row have died suspiciously, just as Ronald Kornblow (Groucho Marx) is hired to become the hotel's new manager. Meanwhile, Nazis are afoot with plans to make Kornblow the fourth victim, intending to trap him through the allure of a beautiful woman. Chico plays Rusty, the valet for the head Nazi, who overhears the plan, and teams up with businessman Corbaccio (Chico) to save Kornblow from the femme fatale. Rusty and Corbaccio tend to be a bit overzealous in the protection of Kornblow, providing for some hilarious moments. Soon Rusty finds the treasure, but the trio is thrown into prison before he can claim it. From prison on out the Brothers' slapstick, surreal humor really gets going, providing bigger and better laughs as A NIGHT IN CASABLANCA races toward its extremely silly climax.

Pros They are all in the body of the review.
Cons I wouldn't dare - Groucho would haunt me!
Recommended it? Yes

Let's get something understood going in; I'm not the greatest of Marx Brothers fans. I'm old enough to actually remember when there were FIVE Marx brothers - which would be Groucho, Harpo, Chico, Zeppo and Gummo. Despite the "o" endings to their names, they were five good little Jewish boys with an... Read full review »

Pros A fun movie, though not a good example of Marx Brothers at their best.
Cons Repetition of earlier routines, average acting.
Recommended it? Yes

During preparation of the movie, A Night in Casablanca, the Marx Brothers received a stern letter from Warner Brothers directing them not to use "Casablanca" in the title. WB's film of that name, starring Ingrid Bergman and Humphrey Bogart, had been released several years earlier. In his... Read full review »

Pros it's a Marx Brothers Movie
Cons tired gags, marx brothers senior citizens.
Recommended it? No

This movie was the last Marx Brothers movie that I had to see. After seeing such classics as "Duck Soup" and "Horse Feathers" I was ready to see another great Marx Bros. movie. I didn't get one.

There are a few good things about this movie. Groucho still gets to rattle off those fabulous... Read full review »
