The Bottom Line:
If I could go back and choose a different phone I would get as far away from this type of phone as I could. Don't buy it.
I have been the owner of a BlackBerry Pearl for around four months now. This phone takes great pictures and is an awesome little music player but besides these few pluses, I haven't been impressed.
TURN ON! I am pretty impatient most of the time and it doesn't help one bit when it takes my phone 3-4 minutes to turn on. Now I know most people leave their phones on all the time so let me explain why it's off in the first place.
Malfunction: Every now and then my BlackBerry will decide on its own that it wants to erase every message I have in my memory. I know, I know, you probably think it has some sort of "auto-erase" feature but I have kept track and there is no rhyme or reason as to when this phone will delete all my messages. The only way to fix this problem is to rip the battery out and start over. If you don't, it will just erase every message as you send or receive it.
Another Malfunction? A second trick my BlackBerry likes to play on me is similiar to the message problem. Atleast once a week I go to make a call and cannot hear a thing. The screen says I'm connected and the clock is ticking but I sure cant hear anything. Guess how I fix this problem...... I rip the battery out and wait 3-4 minutes for my phone to turn on.
Ringtones: You are given a BlackBerry desktop manager when you purchase this phone. This program is supposed to allow you to manage your phone in all sorts of cool ways. One of its features is supposed to be custom ringtones. Take your favorite song, cut out your favorite part and put it on your phone right? Wrong! I cant even find this feature on the program. It tells you how to do it in the "help" tab, but its instructions lead to a dead end. I got on an on-line chatroom about this and lots of people are having the same problem.
User Friendly? No, it's not user friendly. Maybe I'm just not good with phones but I've always been able to find out how to change my text tone but I sure cant on this phone. The entire set-up is so complex that it is almost impossible to use this phone without learning from an expert.
I don't like this phone one bit. If I could go back and get a different phone I would do it in a heartbeat. There are a few cool features but they just aren't worth it.
