After working through some problems, I'm satisfied with the product
Pros
2 line w/ CID Speaker phone Headphone jack No answering machine
Cons
Known issue with caller ID on 2nd line in some cases
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Despite some problems with CID on second line, this is a good phone. Above average rating based on features and price.
Wanted a 2 line phone w/ caller ID, speaker phone and headset jack. Didn't want wireless and didn't want integrated digital answering machine - and didn't want to spend a lot of $. Found options to be limited. This phone has everything I wanted including message waiting indicator
OK, what problems can you run into plugging in a phone? The issues I had were related to dual line caller ID and central office voice mail integration (i.e. the light flashes while the network voice mail has messages waiting - like you would have in an office environment).
I was not getting CID for my second line. Complication: my second line was Vonage and my primary line was Verizon. Verified the Vonage CID was working properly with other phones. Web search on Epinions - known issue with 2nd line caller ID.
Called AT&T to see what could be done. They said there was new software available and agreed to replace the phone without the hassel of coming up with the original receipt, etc.
However, when I switched my primary line to Vonage, the problem went away. Caller ID works on both lines perfectly. The central office voicemail indicator is working with Vonage voice mail. So it turns out that CID may have problems when it is 2 different telephone providers.
Somebody else reported the LCD backlight as a problem. The phone comes with a power supply and as long as it is getting power, you can program the backlight to always be on (not really that hard to do either).
