ASUS VH236H - Met All My Expectations

Pros Small footprint, attractive bezel, brilliant display, rich colors, inexpensive, three year manufacturer's warranty
Cons Minimum dead/stuck pixel policy before return, low profile buttons hard to see and feel
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  I would recommend this monitor to anyone needing a decent quality but inexpensive display.
The Search

I did a lot of my own research prior to replacing my much beloved 19" ViewSonics monitor that I first used as a primary monitor (my first flat screen LCD) on a Windows PC, and then as a second monitor hooked to my Apple Intel iMac. When that finally died, I didn't just go buy a new monitor. There are so many to choose from and I was looking for the absolute best quality for the lowest price.

After Many Reviews

Spending lots of time reading reviews, and then also talking to computer monitor "experts", I decided to buy my first ASUS monitor. The price was about half of what I paid for the ViewSonic when it first came out but when I plugged it into the iMac...WOW! Not only was it close to 3-D quality, it actually looked better than the high priced display Apple is known for.

First Impression

After plugging it in, the colors were vivid but not over blown. You get multiple cables to use and it is pretty much plug and play. The iMac has a built in function that matches an external monitor to itself, or vice versa so with a push of a button, the two monitors became as one. I liked the Asus so much that I went and bought another one for my wife. Both monitors arrived in working condition and neither had any dead pixels. Asus does have a policy of not replacing your monitor if there is less than three dead or stuck pixels. Fortunately, I had none on both monitors.

Nit-Picks

The only quibble I have has been mentioned by other reviewers on other sites but I consider it a nit-pick. The buttons are difficult to see and use. When first setting it up, I had to have a flashlight to actually see them on the bezel as the printing is subtle and the shape of the buttons does not allow for them to stick out and are hard to feel. But be that as it may, for the price and quality, I am very, VERY happy and plan on getting another one to bring my master control computer center up to three (there is a device you can buy that allows you to run two external monitors on the iMac).

Final Thought

So my recommendation is if you want a very good quality monitor for a very low price with a three year manufacturer's warranty, seriously consider the ASUS VH236H.
