APC Back-UPS Pro 500 USB

Cons
doesn't protect cable line
Recommended it?
Yes
I gave this product a 9 out of 10.
A complete pleasure from start to finish. I thought APC UPS' were great from the start. My opinion of their APC Back-UPS Pro 500 USB was perfect. I loved both its function and form. And my opinion has done nothing but grown more favorably with time.
Background:
I am a 24 year old male engineering and computer science student living in SC. I do have a large humanities background.
Overview:
What a great product. It looks great and it works great. I'd be happy with a UPS that just worked great but these days it is nice to have computer accessories that have some style and class. With a name brand like APC you can be sure you have the best the industry has to offer.
Setup:
A complete breeze. I even enjoyed it quite a bit. Normally hardware installation and setup can be anything from a chore to a hassle. This one was almost a thrill. Install software, activate battery, plug in outlet, plug in computer components to UPS, insert USB cable and you are done. Each step is simple and easy.
USB:
The USB support is just what the doctor ordered. Just plug and play, installation is a snap. It even comes with the USB cable while most hardware manufactures don't with their products. Nothing worse than getting your item and not being able to use it right away because it doesn't come with a little cable.
Power Backup:
4 of the 7 outlets on the UPS are powered backuped. I figure two of the four and two of the three outlets can handle Adapter plugs if placed properly a big consideration with computer equipment. The other three are just surge. It has surge protection for phone lines. It doesn't have surge protection for cable lines. That is why I only gave it a 9 out of ten. For people like with TV tuner card on their computer this is a big risk. My APC Back-UPS Pro 500 USB came with the APC SurgeArrest Professional too and it has the cable line surge protection so I don't mind and I need more surge protection outlets anyway. Might need another one of these pretty soon.
Inside Tip:
I don't know if they are still doing this or not but you can check.Go to http://www.apc.com/ and look at their online auctions. I got my APC Back-UPS Pro 500 USB with the APC SurgeArrest for about $150 with shipping. That is a lot cheaper than everyone else has it without the APC SurgeArrest Professional unit.

Thanks.
