The Bottom Line:
Buy it and you will not be disappointed. If you are disappointed, either your subs suck, or it was not installed correctly.
I recently purchased a Power Acoustik A1000DB amplifier from jlhwholesalers.com for $177.78 + $12.95 shipping. The amplifier arrived in only 4 days, and it is actually a brand new unit. Unlike most amplifiers on eBay, which are either b-stock, customer returns, refurbished, or open box items. Also, at JLHWHOLESALERS.COM, they are an authorized Power Acoustik Dealer, so you get the full manufactors warranty. When the amplifier arrived I was stunned at how small of a foot print the amplifier has! It's very small, which makes it very easy to install in your vehicle. I have never owned a PA amp before so this was my first experience and all I can say is how happy I am with the amp. I connected it to my two jl audio 12w3v2-d4's and connected the subs in parallel so that the A1000DB is "seeing" a 1-ohm load. When I listed to a few heavy bass songs like Lil' Jon BME Click and Throw it up, the subs sounded so clean, and so incredibly loud! My setup is two jl 12w3v2's in a ported enclosure made by JL specifically for those subs. *you know the jl enclosures with the red carpet*. Back to the A1000DB- it has so many great features such as a variable subsonic filter (15 Hz–40 Hz), variable bass equalization at 45hz, a S/N ratio of 100 dB so you don't have to have a line driver just to get some power out of the amp, unlike rockford fosgate amps which you almost always have to have the gain 3/4 of the way up as well as the remote bass knob half way up just to hear the power. Some more features of the power acoustik are variable gain control, variable low pass filter (50 Hz–150 Hz) , and the amplifier is capable of bridging synchronization with another A1000DB so if you have two you can run both amps to one voice coil with matched gains etc. Also, the amplifier has 4-way protection circuitry. The A1000DB is also completely stable at 1-ohm, unlike JBL's BP1200.1/600.1/300.1---that when your running a 1-ohm load and turn the gain up to match the input voltage the amplifier will make your subs pop and go in and out of protection which makes those amps completely worthless when running a 1-ohm load. On the A1000DB the Remote dash-mount low-level gain control, that comes with the amp, is such a superb and fun addition. It really adds extra control over your amplfier which is a must when listening to rap, and then changing to old school rock and roll and you need to turn the amp up. I have mine at about half way and the gain on the amplifier a hair more then half way.
The gold plated allen wrench power, remote, and ground connections are very high quality and you can really get them tight without stripping them. Overall it's one of the best amplifiers I have ever used, and although it does draw more current then my previous Directed 1500D and JL 1000/1, it's worth it. The price on this amp is more then reasonable. I love this amp and want to get the A3000DB just to see what it can do!
