A Surprisingly Good Machine!
Pros
light weight, relatively quiet, inexpensive
Cons
None based on my requirements
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
I have no reservations in recommending this machine for average kitchen tasks.
I was not looking for a monstrously large, heavy, or expensive food processor. I leave that for the professional chef.
I was looking for a small compact unit, one that was good for making occasional coleslaw, or grinding up graham crackers for a pie shell.
The Hamilton Beach 70450 Food Processor was a pleasant surprise. It performs well, doesn't sound like a jet plane revving up, is lightweight, and inexpensive. It does a fine job of slicing, shredding, and chopping.
The unit comes with a circular, combination shredder/slicer blade, which fits at the top of the basket. The blade can flip over to perform the opposite function, and is clearly marked. An included chopper blade fits at the bottom of the bowl. It chops as well as mixes. Both blades are extremely sharp, and care must be taken when handling them.
Although the six-cup bowl is smaller than some of the "Big Boy" food processors, I found it large enough for my purposes. The same is true for the feeding shoot; somewhat smaller, but no "show stopper".
The bowl and food pusher are made of sturdy, heavy plastic and seem more durable than some of the other inexpensive processors I've examined. Also, unlike some units that come with white plastic parts, and can be immediately stained by carrot juice, the bowl and pusher of this unit are clear plastic.
