If You Mostly Want Toast Oster Can Help

Pros Inexpensive, versatile, consistent

Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  For a simple and repetitive task a toaster doen't need to be a space age miracle. This Oster does it well and cheaply.
Johnny likes his toast with butter and grape jam in the mornings. I like a toasted English muffin with butter melted into it. Honey occasionally wants a waffle without having to use the waffle iron. We got the Oster 6329 2-Slice Toaster to handle those disparate needs. For the last nine months it has been doing its job almost daily.

Oster 6329 2-Slice Toaster

We caught this on sale at Target and decided it would do a better job than the many-years-old toaster it would replace. It has satisfied us pretty well for these months.

The toaster is a sleek, almost retro, design in chrome and black. It has two slightly oversized slots for toasting. Setting for different toast items is a little confusing. First you have to push Toast, then pull down the ejection lever. If you want to handle something else that is when you push that button. It has the usual dial for brownness and it works satisfactorily. The heating elements are on each side of each slice and do a decent job of evenly browning - unless your item is tall. The elements are set lower than the capacity of the toast slots and might not do much on the top of a taller item. Once the toast is done, the slices pop up. They don't actually eject as some toasters do. In fact an average slice of bread or English muffin is not high enough to reach with your fingers. A nice touch is that the ejection lever can be pushed up manually to get at those smaller items.

The crumb tray is effective, holds quite a few crumbs and is easy to remove and empty. The surface is slick and cleans up easily. It carries a standard one year warranty.

In Use

We use this toaster from Oster (part of the Sunbeam family now) almost daily. Once we got the light/dark setting right for Johnny's sourdough toast we haven't had to change it. When I want an English muffin I just push the bagel button. When Honey wants her frozen waffle she pushes the frozen button. If we mess up cancel is handy.  We have it pushed back near the wall on our counter. The cord is long enough that we can pull it out to toast then shove it back after it cools. The outside stays cool to the touch. One thing we notice is that if we are toasting multiple items in quick succession we have to adjust  the lighten/darken dial to keep the darkness the same.

We don't expect this inexpensive toaster to last forever, but while it works we like what it does..
