5 Fingers and 2 Thumbs Up

Pros Martial Arts Action at its best
Cons None
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  See the original Martial Arts cult classic that started it all.
I remember seeing this film in the movie theaters back in the early 70's in Bronx, NY, where you will find the most rowdiest movie crowds in the nation. This was the first Martial Arts movie to hit the big screen and everyone was pumped up. The opening scenes of the fighters jumping from rooftop to rooftop (similar to Crouching Tiger) had members in the audience shouting "Able to Leap Tall Buildings in a Single Bound", which invoked a lot of laughter from the crowd. The story is about a martial arts student name Chao Chi Hao who spends most of his time training for an upcoming martial arts tournament. When his teacher feels that he can longer show him anything else, he sends Chao to another school run by a respectable master. The master takes a liking to Chao and teaches him the Iron Fist technique, which invokes jealousy from one of the top students in the school. The student conspires with the local thugs that belong to a rival school, and they break Chao's hands, in order to end his fighting career. Meanwhile, the thugs have also murdered his first teacher, by enlisting the services of some Japanese Karate experts.
The rest of the plot I will leave up to you to see for yourself. The film has some graphic fight scenes and many different styles of Martial Arts are on display. You will also note that the theme from Ironside is used in some of the final fight scenes to highlight that Chao is using the Iron Fist technique to defeat his opponents. This film paved the way for Bruce Lee's films and dozens of others that were popular in the 70's. This is a must own for anyone who is a fan of Martial Arts movies.
