Never buy a Philips TV
Pros
Ambilight looks cool on the wall
Cons
Customer Support is appalling
Recommended it?
No
The Bottom Line:
I will NEVER buy a Philips TV.
+++++ UPDATE START ++++++++
After 13 months of fighting with Philips the 2 50" Philips were replaced with new units which have been working just fine. I just kept getting the run around from the Philips Channels I was supposed to be working with. So I went to the Corporate web site, went to the investor relations section and sent an e-mail to the investor relations department, that e-mail got a reply the very next day. That was followed a few days later from an e-mail from the CEO of Philips USA assuring me he would address the issue. I worked with his assistant and got the new TV's mounted on my wall within 3 weeks.
The Ambilight still looks cool! :)
+++++ UPDATE END +++++++++++
The ambilight looks cool, very very cool. Not sure it makes up for the poor picture quality but it does look like a piece of art on the wall. If you stand far enough away from the unit it looks OK. But I bought 3 of these and they all stopped working. One came out of the box with the front bezel broken off, not covered by Philips. I talked on the phone with them for 22 hours to try and get it fixed and at the end of the day, they told me it wasn't covered because it is cosmetic. So I fix it myself and move on. Now I get no power on any of the units, the PDP's and the boards need to be replaced. I have placed a call into Philips Consumer Relations 3 time a day for the last 3 months and 3 weeks. I have gotten 4 return phone calls in that time. They sent me to a service center to do the repair work. They eventually ordered the parts. A month later the service shop tells me the part is on back order and they will order a different part. Weeks go by and nothing. Then Philips tells me that the service provider that they sent me to has a suspended account and the part is in stock they just can't send it to the shop.
I paid over $5,000 for each of these when they first came out, I got ripped off they are giving these things away now. But they are not worth it even at today's prices. The time you will spend trying to get them to work will drive you crazy. Buy a Panasonic with their included Concierge service . Simply amazing customer service.
