The Bottom Line:
Save a little bit more and go with a slightly higher level machine. Or make sure you buy it from a place with a good return policy.
I had a DeLonghi ec140b and it worked fine- decent crema, decent frothing. It had an accident and I had to find a new machine. Money being extremely tight, I went with this Hamilton Beach machine thinking it looked similar enough but was cheaper on sale. I have had it for a few weeks and I am thankful I bought it from somewhere with a generous 90-day return policy because IT IS GOING BACK!
It froths OK- yes, just ok. It does have an easy access water tank, but it is a little small. It does accept ESE pods. It has a nice cup warmer area on top, but nothing to hold them up there so don't knock it by accident. It does have suction cup feet, which I found more of an annoyance.
But, the biggest thing is I cannot pull a good shot of espresso from this thing no matter what I try. I have tried different grinds, tamping pressures, coffee, etc. Everything in every combination I can think of and I still cannot get any crema...none. (I had no problems with the DeLonghi so I know at least a little of what I am doing).
So, if you want more than a coffee with slightly steamed milk, save a few more pennies and go with the Delonghi at the very least. I think with this machine, you will likely be sorely disappointed.
