Orange You Glad I Love This Product?

The Bottom Line:
I would say these are indispensible, but the dispenser works quite well.
Please forgive the terrible pun in the title. You know, I am not really one to rave about an office supply product, but 3M Post-It Flags in orange are pretty darn fabulous. I use these in law school, at work, and at home. If you are slightly anal and love nifty tools to help you be colorfully organized, this product is for you.
General Information
These 3M Post-It flags measure 1" by 1 3/4". They come in a variety of colors such as yellow, blue, green, and purple. I like orange best because they are so visible, but I have used most of the colors. They are in nifty little plastic packages which allow the flags to pop up one after another, like little Kleenexes. Each package has fifty flags and costs around $2.25-$2.50. You can get them in bulk as well. Where I work, we have rows of these little packages attached together and you just break one off. Presumably buying in bulk brings a discount.
These Post-It Flags can be found anywhere you purchase office supplies. I have personally purchased them at superstores like Walmart as well as drugstores and supermarkets. Usually I am buying them frantically at the last minute to tab my binders before an exam, so it is a good thing they are readily available.
What's So Great About These Tabbies?
Post-It Flags come in pretty darn handy. They are made of a sturdy, flexible, material that can be written on if you press hard but will not rip or tear like paper tabs. Usually I am just writing a number or letter on the tab so this is perfect. The sticky half of the tab is clear, so it doesn't cover any text on the page. You can get different colors if you are doing a project that needs to be color coded, and have each color tab mean a different thing. For example, important definitions are tabbed in orange and quotes from class are tabbed in green. I have open-book exams where time is of the essence, so being able to find things in my binders and textbooks quickly is critical.
While these guys stick when you want them too, they also come off when you are done and don't rip the paper. In fact, I often reuse these tabs when I am done with one binder. I just pull them off, stick them to a desk or table, and then reapply them to the next thing I am tabbing. Obviously this technique works the best at work, because I wouldn't want to leave little tabbies around my house for days at a time. I know other people I work with do this too because I will often see a stash of flags stuck to the counter or copy machine.
The uses for these tabs are endless. You can use them like I do, to tab important pages in binders for school or case files for work. However, there are also non-traditional uses. I sometimes use one to keep my page in a library book because it won't fall out like a bookmark, but will come right off when I am done. Post-It flags could also come in handy to mark favorite recipes in cookbooks or frequently used numbers in the phonebook. See how handy they are?
The Only Negativei??
These things are expensive and I go through them far too quickly! Fifty really is not that many when you are tabbing a huge binder or file. I wish they were a little more value-priced, but I guess it's good that I've gotten really disciplined about reusing them.
