A great air purifier with relatively inexpensive filters that is efficient, quiet and easy to use. Almost cheap enough to discard and buy new when the filter needs changing!
I purchased the 3M Filtrete Ultra Clean Air Purifier FAP02 to replace an older air cleaner for a small bedroom and I am very pleased with this unit.
The cleaner is a handsome appliance and extremely quiet, even on high speed. I am using it in a room about 12' x 13' and it seems to work perfectly in this size space. I noticed that the air smells much cleaner and kind of sweeter after running the unit overnight. Although the filter is not a HEPA type, it seems to do a good job of filtering and refreshing the air.
The unit stands about 22" tall x 16" wide x 7" deep. The speed control is a large knob on top which turns to provide any of 3 speeds. At high speed, the machine is very quiet and is ideal for a bedroom, particularly for light sleepers. There is a reset button on the back, behind the filter, which can be used to remind the user to change the filter every 90 days (manufacturer's recommendation), but I am certain that under normal conditions, you would be able to use the filter longer than that. When the filter is about 80% used, a yellow light illuminates on the speed knob. When the filter needs to be changed, a red light appears. These lights are programmed to appear based on hours of running time, so it might be wise to visually inspect the filter before changing it. Under ideal conditions, I am sure that the filter would last longer than 90 days.
There are other models of the Filtrete Air Purifier for larger rooms. The FAP02 is rated at room size of approx. 160 s.f. The warranty is for 1-year from the manufacturer. There is also a toll-free number to call 3M with any questions. The instruction guide is pretty basic because the operation of the machine is also pretty basic. Just plug it in, set the speed and that's it. The electrical cord is long enough to reach any distant outlet, but there is no cord storage on the unit. There is a built in handle for easy pick up and moving and the unit is light in weight and well balanced.
I paid $47.99 at woot.com including shipping and there is a $20. rebate available from the manufacturer. This a very good deal, $28., for a very stylish and effective air purifier that is super quiet. The replacement filters retail for about $19. each, but I have seen them on Amazon for as low as $14. and after-market replacements cost about $13.
If you are looking for an efficient and quiet air cleaner for a small room at a reasonable price from a reputable company, this is the one. For larger areas, you can look at the FAP03 or FAP04. The styles are basically the same.
