Lexmark X75 Printer, Scanner, Fax, Copier

Pros Very Cheap and easy to find at stores. Does it all.
Cons Paper misfeeds. Interface software very very slow. No USB cable provided.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  If it holds up software and hardware wise then buy it. Its not a professional unit but at $99 a steal for the light work.
First of all I bought this printer because it did the things I wanted (Print, Copy, Scan, Fax) and it was cheap. I also knew I would be using it only on a limited basis so I did not want to spend big bucks. Starting with the unit itself, it appears simple and free of all kinds of levers or moving parts. The entire scan bed tilts up to reveal the place for the ink containers. Careful to get the little plastic latch to latch or it will come crashing down on your fingers! Mechanical setup was a breeze as long as you note to buy the USB cable thats needed. The ink containers installed smoothly. Don't look for them to last long as it appears they cannot hold much ink due to extremely small size. Count on $30 to replace the color and black containers. The software setup was difficult to say the least. I was unfortunate that the first attempt resulted in a locked up computer. Had to restart. After restart it appeared the installation was continuing. It finished but I soon found out the printer was the only thing that worked. Copy and scan resulted in a error that pretty much said "check cables". Its last statement was to reinstall the software. Oh boy here we go. I reinstalled the software a few times, restarted the computer a few times, and cycled the power cord on the Lexmark a few times and finally piece by piece it all started working albeit slowly. I still am not sure if my software is fully installed because windows thinks this printer feature is an "Unknown Device". Somehow it works but I have a gut feeling somewhere down the road I will find out the hard way why part of the install resulted in "unknown device". I still do not understand how to make the COPY buttons on the panel work seamlessly. To get mine to work I have to cycle the Lexmarks power each time to get one of the copy buttons working. Be prepard then to wait awhile because its sloooow. Remember the PC must be on for the panel COPY and SCAN buttons to work. This model can't do it on its own. Well now I'm finally printing and scanning and the results seem average or perhaps above average for its cheap price. It does seem to misfeed the paper at the start of a print job every once and awhile resulting in crooked text. But hey, I am not expecting perfection for 99 bucks. Scan times are ok. Nice it allows you to pick or even add your application to scan into. All user interfaces can be improved and this one is no different but you'll get used to it. If the Lexmark is on when you shut your computer down it will turn the unit off--nice little touch. I'll be keeping a close eye on its performance over the next several days especially since the software install was so difficult and maybe not 100% successful. If it continues to work (haven't tried the fax) and the software holds together then its well worth the money.
