The Bottom Line:
A solid piece of equipment. Would not hesitate to again buy a similar 3COM product.
Ordered an OEM packaged unit. The plain box included the WAP, the power supply, and a piece of CAT-5 cable only. It did not include anything else.
The OEM unit came without rubber "feet", had to buy my own ($1) and put on the box. I also had to download the user manual, software setup utility, and BIOS upgrade from 3COM website.
Connected to an empty port on my router, ran the setup utility from a wired pc, and I was setting up the WAP within minutes. The interface to the WAP's setup pages is done through your browser. The pages switched smoothly and in no time I had the BIOS flashed with the latest software version and had its security features enabled. The setup instructions were concise and easy to follow, did not have one glitch or problem.
The power supply (wall adapter) is rather large and I suspect it is a little overkill for the amount of power being used by the WAP. I had to bend the prongs out a little to make it stay in the wall outlet.
After two days of continuous use have not had any problems. I checked the warmth of the WAP with my hand and the unit is barely warm, almost imperceptible.
I bought this 3COM WAP to replace a Linksys WAP11 that has been nothing but trouble. Two have failed in less than year, so changed manufacturers to a 3COM product.
One the scale of 1-10 I give the 3Com OfficeConnect 3CRWE454G72 802.11 g Wireless Access Point a solid "10".
