The Bottom Line:
I would recommend this for the price, it's lighter than most and has good power. Could be a little quieter and have a longer hose.
I work part time as a self employed housekeeper and have spent many hours reading reviews and specifications on vacuums. I have a Kenmore canister vacuum that works great for my needs but I'm just tired of breaking my back carrying it's 28 or so pounds from house to house. My sole purpose for a new one was to find something lighter without sacrificing tools and power.
I just purchased this Bissell at Target for $79.99 last week. I agonized over the decision and almost purchased a Shark canister. I haven't been a big fan of uprights in the past.
It was simple to assemble the handle and off I went vacuuming my living room that I had just done the day before with the Kenmore. I was amazed at the stuff in the container. I have since taken it to two client homes and have been for the most part very pleased with it considering the price.
My opinion- The cord length, very good.
It picks up great on carpet and very good on hardwood floors , you may need to use the hose attachment for large crumbs or debris that it might push around.
I find it easy to grab the hose and attach the extension wand and crevice tool. I wish the turbo brush was a little easier to remove from the front, it's hard to get a grip on it to pull it out. My Kenmore has a turbo brush also and I never use it because it stops and I thought it to be useless. The Bissell turbo brush seems to have more power though. It hasn't stopped on me yet but I still don't find it useful for too much.
I don't like the dusting brush/upholstery tool as much as what I was using. I prefer the shape of the round Shop Vac brush I carried around in my tool bucket. It has longer, softer bristles. I used it on the Kenmore vacuum because I didn't like the brush that came with it either (at least not for some tasks like dusting lamp shades or blinds). Maybe it will fit on the Bissell as well. The Bissell dusting brush works well on upholstery and rugs. I accidentally figured out that you have to rotate it to which side you want. There is a valve inside that closes to the side you are not using. I quickly figured it out when it was partially open and it made a loud squeal. Somehow I missed that part while reading the manual, but it's very easy to rotate.
The vacuum hose has plenty of power but Bissell should not even bother to place it's length on the box. I have nine foot ceilings and it will reach to the top with the extension wand and crevice tool to get cobwebs, just be prepared to have your hand or foot on the vacuum to prevent it from tipping over. If you try to stretch the hose, the vacuum will follow, so you don't get use of the full length unless you keep the vacuum from moving.
It's easy to empty the dust cup. I like that you don't have to pull out the filter to do so, like on my Kenmore. I haven't cleaned the filters yet, but have noticed they do seem to be holding a lot of dust considering I only used the vacuum a few times now. That explains why other reviewers say the filters must be cleaned frequently.
Noise- The Bissell is louder than what I am used to, but not as loud as some or too loud considering the price. It's not too bad on carpet but louder on bare floors or when using tools. I think I will end up using earplugs though because I'm just sensitive to the loud noise of vacuums.
I like that it has two carry handles. One on front that allows you to carry it backwards up the stairs.
It's low enough to fit under the cabinets in my kitchen.
The handle release pedal is easy to use.
The bottom line is I was looking for a lightweight vacuum (The tag at Target said this one is 16 lbs) that had attachments and was affordable. Considering I have only had this a few days, I would definitely recommend it. Hopefully it will function well long into the future.
