Too Many Glitches

byjrucch Jul 21, 2009
Pros Good Graphics, good announcers
Cons So many glitches, annoying to play.
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:  Terrible game, the glitches still aren't fixed after two patches
Major League Baseball 2K9 has received a large amount of poor reviews since being released. I tend to agree with most of these reviews, although I think it is being exaggerated as to how bad this game really is.

Overall, this game is pretty good; the majority of the complaints are that the game contains a lot of glitches. I've been playing the game for a few days, and I have experienced a few glitches.

Some of the glitches that are currently known include:

-The First Baseman Glitch- Occasionally on ground ball when the ball is thrown to first base, the first baseman will come off the base causing the runner to be safe.

-Outfield Fly Ball- Occasionally, on a fly ball if the outfielder is standing in the wrong part of the target, the ball will go right through him, resulting in a hit.

-Outfield Running glitch- Often times in the outfield, the outfielder will run to the ball as if they running in sand, or have their feet stuck in something.

-Pickoff Glitch- Often times it is too easy to pick off the runner, especially off of second base.

-Franchise Mode- The franchise mode often has glitches, which can cause franchise mode to freeze.

Some of the other glitches include tag plays on bases having mixed calls, and many others. Despite all these glitches, I say overall the game is very good, and even with the glitches is playable. Since it's the only baseball game of 2009 for Xbox 360, I would recommend it based on that. MLB 2K9, which is made by 2K sports does have a patch to be released April 5th 2009, which should address all of these glitches. With this patch, it should fix both play for online and non-online play. The patch can be downloaded via Xbox 360 Live. This download should be available via Xbox 360 Live Silver edition, which is the free version.

Since playing the game, although these glitches have occurred, I still find the game very fun to play. I have been playing multiplayer with some of my friends and college roommates, and it has been very enjoyable. This certainly isn't the best baseball game I ever played, but it is up to date, and the graphics and batting stances, etc are very realistic.

In conclusion, assuming the patch does everything it says it's going to, I say this game is good for anyone who is looking for a 2009 baseball game. I would recommend MLB 09 the Show if you have a Playstation system, as I hear that is much better. I have played all types of baseball games in the past, including MLB The Show, World Series Baseball, Major League Baseball, and more. Overall, The Show is probably the best current game if you are looking specifically for a 2009 game. If the rosters aren't important to you, or if you know how to download the up to date rosters via Xbox Live, then MLB 2K8 might be a better choice. It should help you save both money, and the game has less glitches.
