The Bottom Line:
This toaster is the best I have ever used.
Last month I saw the Hamilton Beach model 24608 four slice toaster at a store called Bennys here in Rhode Island. I had seen it in the flyer. It was on sale for $19.99 from $24.99 at the original price. It was some thing that we needed so I went and picked it up the same day that I saw the ad for it. I bought two of them, one for us to have and one for my mother that I gave to her for Christmas just a couple of weeks ago.
What the Hamilton Beach model 24608 four slice toaster does and what it looks like:
The Hamilton Beach model 24608 four slice toaster is black arounf the front and back of the toaster and chrome around the sides. The button/ know is in the front. This toast is sharp looking and will match any thing because of the basic colors involved. The fact that it is black though does mean it is a dust collector. But if you think about it that is a good thing. All of them collect dust but at least on the black you can see it and make sure it comes clean!
To use this toaster is rather simple and easy to do. It has two tabs. One that you push for the two holders on the left and the other you push down for the two on the right. Each of them has a long skinny botton below it which allows you to pop the toast up early if you choose to. It has a contral to turn to select the desired color and cooking method. You can make it any where between light and very dark. The lowest level of light will give you semi crispy but white toast, the darkest will nearly burn the toast. There is a large range of selection so you can find the one that you like best.
My experience:
I use the Hamilton Beach model 24608 four slice toaster for toast, bagels, waffles and for English muffins. Oh and also for toaster pastry things and pop tarts for my kids. This toaster gets daily use, some times evern more then once per day. I like toast so I use it quite a bit for that. I like that fact that the slots are wide enough for bagels to fit in, but not gets stuck. My old toaster was a two slice and bagels would get stuck and burn in it. So this toaster was a big step up for me.
My mother who I gave one to as a gift loved her's as well. She too had a two slice toaster. Her old one made bagels but with 5 adults and a child living in her home, a two slice toaster took a long time to make every ones break fast. Meaning the eggs were cold long before the toast was done for every one and no one ate at the same time.
This toaster heats up really fast. It cooks in mearly 2 minutes or so so every one can eat prettymuch at the same time with out getting cold food. My mother like the fact that it takes her much less time and energy. I like that about it to. When you have a lot of people to feed you need a bigger toaster to get the job done. I was really happy to have gotten such a great deal on the toasters.
Cleaning:
The Hamilton Beach model 24608 four slice toaster is even easy to clean out. Of course you will get crumbs and things in side of the toaster. That can not be avoided. But with the ease of cleaning this toaster that is not really much of a big deal. The bottom tray comes down with a turn of the metal tab under it. The tray allows the crumbs too slide out and allows you to wipe the toaster clean properly.
My recommendation:
My mother loved her toaster. It made a great gift that didn't break the bank so to speak. I love mine as well. We both use our toasters on a daily basis. I never have had the toast or any thing else burn or come out any darker then we want it to be. My daughter likes light toast, I like very dark toast, and every one else likes it medium. With this toaster every one can have just what they want. the only thing I do not like is that the out side is hot to the touch when the food is done. You should keep the toaster pushed back alittle if you have kids around so they do not touch it and get burned. Other then that every thing about it is perfect! I would highly recommend it.
