The Bottom Line:
For most any modern kitchen, either yours or as a gift to coffee lovers, it delivers quick and evenly ground coffee with very little hassle or mess. Under $20
For less than the cost of a tank of gas, you produce perfectly ground coffee for your caffeine boost. The Krups Fast Touch Coffee Grinder is an easily mastered, low cost coffee grinder. Start your day or finish your evening with coffee freshly ground to your own taste.
A Small But Mighty Package
The Krups Fast Touch grinder has been designed to fit most any kitchen counter. At 6 inches high and around 3 inches wide, with a powerful 130 watt motor and stainless steel blades, this contemporarily designed one pound grinder is perfectly matched for coffee beans, spices, nuts, or whole grains in today's modern kitchen. With enough capacity for 12 cups of coffee, and a lid activated safety switch, you can have fresh custom ground coffee on a budget.
You Cannot Beat Fresh!
Ask anyone standing in line to pay $5.00 for a cup of coffee and they will tell you that freshly ground coffee tastes better. And then there is a real satisfaction in producing that perfect cup of coffee to top off that perfect meal. Since it is much harder to serve "perfect" coffee from that last scoop out of the can you opened a month ago, the 15 seconds it takes to custom grind your own coffee can push your evening over the top.
Over A Decade Of Faithful Service
On Christmas morning a couple of "presidents" ago, I was handed my present from my sister-in-law. Never knowing what to expect, I was not really surprised to find a couple packages of coffee beans and a kitchen appliance. Smiling that mechanical Christmas Present smile, I voiced my gratitude and went on in my quest for the good stuff. Later that evening, after a serious Christmas dinner, a "number" of glasses of wine, and a wee dram of single malt scotch, "everyone" thought it would be a good idea if I cranked out some "designer coffee" for their drive home. First pouring fresh beans into the lid, tilting back onto the grinder, and finally pressing down on the lid for about 15 seconds, returned a dramatic grinding tone and about 3 ounces of finely ground coffee. Pouring the grinds into the coffee maker, we patiently waited the 10 minutes for brewing. Finally, through our Holiday hazed senses we all noticed just how good coffee could taste!
Fast forwarding to today and once again a special day's finale is freshly ground coffee. But since that first grind I have found that there is a lot of flexibility gained by having your own grinder. Mixing "different" beans found at the local supermarket can give you your own custom blended coffee. Just a thought, but finally your definition of good coffee can be uniquely yours.
You do not have to stop with coffee beans. Most people recognize that freshly ground pepper has a fuller taste, and the Fast Touch grinder makes short work of it too, as it will other spices and nuts. Remember that next time you are preparing a "special" meal.
The Real World
Features like the clear oval lid safety switch do come in handy. As you watch the beans being ground, you can see the texture change as it gets finer. After a little experience you should be able to "see" your perfect grind take shape; then all you have to do is release the pressure on it to stop the grinder. The size of the lid is about right to return about the 3 ounces of ground coffee needed for most 12 cup coffee makers, and the shape pours easily into most filters. It is available in both white and black to compliment the other appliances in your kitchen.
Because the stainless steel blades are not removable and the unit is not fully immersible in water, expect to have to wipe it out by hand with a towel for cleaning. And since coffee beans are pretty tough, it is loud enough to attract the attention of people in the next room. But these drawbacks lend a little to the overall experience of having your own custom ground coffee.
Recommendation
An affordable addition to most any modern kitchen, either your own or as a unique gift to coffee lovers on your Holiday list, the Krups Fast Touch grinder delivers quick and evenly ground coffee with very little hassle or mess. At less than $20 it is hard to beat.
