A Little Help With the Daily Grind

Pros Inexpensive, durable, effective, safe, and simple to use.
Cons The stainless hopper is not removable and not washable.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  It's perfect for fresh coffee in a few seconds, and makes a great gift for < $20.
Our Krups grinder was a gift. It's been used exclusively for coffee beans, but there's no reason it couldn't be used for other suitable applications like nuts and spices.

The 203-70 is a very simple electric grinder with a plastic housing that contains a stainless cup with a 3oz capacity, a clear plactic cover, and an ample power cord. It uses a 160 watt motor to spin a 2-1/2" stainless blade at high speed, and is backed by a 1-year limited warranty.

Grinding coffee beans (or other) is a pretty straight forward process....just fill the cup, put cover in place, and depress the spring loaded trigger located in the cover. Grind until you've achieved the desired coarseness. It takes a matter of seconds...roughly 5-20 depending. It's a safe and "goof proof" process since it won't run without the cover in place. Once done, I simply tip the grinder upside, which dumps the contents into the cover, then I transfer it to a holding container until needed. Separating the cover from the grinder base to access your freshly ground coffee typically leads to few "fines" escaping on the counter when the cover is lifted, but it's easily wiped up. The cover is washable, but the stainless receptacle is attached to the unit and cannot be removed for cleaning. There'll be a small amount of residual ground coffee left behind that can be wiped out or simply left alone.

Our Krups 203 has held up extremely well. It's several years old and has been utilized dozens, if not hundreds of times without glitch or even a minor break of any sort. The motor is surprisingly powerful and never hesitates for a moment. The motor itself is reasonably quiet, but the sound of the hard beans swirling around inside makes a bit of racquet until the particle size dwindles some....grinding is best done during "normal business hours" as opposed to first thing in the morning if others are sleeping!

It's not an elegant or complex device. There no bells, whistles, lights, timers, or frills of any kind. But it is a very effective low cost solution to freshly ground coffee, spices, nuts, sugars, etc., or whatever your imagination can conjur up.
