The Bottom Line:
Great car, great handling, a true pleasure to drive.
I purchased a 2006 Pontiac Torrent AWD about 8 months ago. I bought it slightly used with about 8000 miles on it, but it drives like brand-new. The Torrent has been my first "new" car that I got to pick out and pay for myself, so I have been very proud to own it. I got the AWD edition with leather seats, heated seats, power moonroof, power seats, etc., pretty much all of the bells and whistles and it's been worth it. I feel like a grown-up in my car and I'm never embarrassed to take anyone anywhere in it. I've had several people ask how much I paid for it, too, and are surprised at the value I got for the money. I was also considering a Cadillac SRX and a Chevrolet Equinox, but I chose the Torrent because it was new to the market and did not seem so "common." I really have enjoyed driving it, as it is very comfortable, safe, and fuel-efficient (usually 18-22 miles/gallon). I drive about 25 miles a day and fill up about once every week and a half. It fills up at 16 gallons, so gas isn't too bad for me. My pick-up-driving husband loves it, too, and teases me that it's my "Caddy," since I had to have all of the upgrades, but I know it's because he's secretly jealous and really wants to drive a GM!
