The Bottom Line:
This is a great car because it is a quality product with a great warranty. It is comfortable, and will make your driving experience economical and fun.
Hyundai has really turned the corner. The Korean automaker used to be the biggest laughingstock in the industry, but those days are long past. Their other models are good quality reliable automobiles, and the Accent is as well. It is a car that has been well constructed, with no "cheap" materials. It is instantly a competitor in the small car market, and will compete evenly with models such as the Chevy Aveo and Toyota Echo. I really like this car, and I will outline my driving impressions.
The car comes equipped with the best possible warranty, and much better than the other manufacturers.(Industry average:3 year/36,000 mile) The Hyundai Accent's bumper to bumper warranty is 5 years/60,000 miles! It also has a 10 year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty, for extra peace of mind. The car is well equipped with Air conditioning, comfortable cloth seats, Am/Fm cassette player, power steering, airbags, and rear defrost. You can pay a bit more to buy automatic, or stick with the standard transmission. The car has front disc and rear drum brakes, plus fog lights on the front. The Accent is front wheel drive, and has 175/70/13 tires.(Very economical-about $35 each to replace!)
Engine power is listed at 104 horsepower, which produced 106 lbs of torque per foot. The size of the engine is a 1.6 liter 4 cylinder, and it is dual overhead cam. Fuel efficiency is 29 miles per gallon in the city, and 34 miles per gallon on the highway. With its 11.9 gallon fuel tank, you'll only have to fuel up on rare occassions. It is a four door vehicle, and has a net weight of 2,290 lbs.
I like this car a lot, and it is my favorite small model car. It is comfortable for tall and short, although the back seats are average. That is my only real complaint, other than the stereo system not having the best sound. The stereo is easy to use, and the buttons are quick to change stations without effort in rush hour traffic. The bass and treble is good, but the total sound experience is not that great. It seems to be a little bit tinny, and kind of like watching a movie in an old theater. The seats are all easily adjustable, and the driving position is excellent. There are no blind spot issues here, and the mirrors are easy to adjust. Of course, with the great price you won't get luxuries such as power windows. But youre only paying peanuts for a great car!
The engine is excellent. I never thought I'd say a 1.6 104 horsepower car is peppy, but this is a little powerhouse of a powerplant. The car squeals tires when you gun the engine, and it moves quick in normal acceleration. It is fairly quiet, until you get it up to real high speeds-ie.75 mph+. But since most people don't drive 75 mph on a regular basis, this is not a problem.
The brakes stop on a dime. All you have to do is apply average amounts of pressure to bring this car to a complete halt. There are no feelings of mushiness or weak brakes here. The steering is very easy, and this vehicle can be parallel parked or in tough city situations without a problem. I really liked the seat comfort. The seats are comfortable for even long drives, and the room for your feet is great. There are no feelings of being "scrunched" up to the dashboard. The instrument panels are very easy to read, and the warning lights will come on if there is a problem.(Or to service engine)
My recommendation is this car is a buy. Everything inside works well, and if you are hot go inside the car. The A/C really cranks up the cold fast, and the heat works well on winter days. The rear defroster works well, and everything is very "user friendly." With this and the great warranty, Hyundai has come out with a winner in the small car market. The price is spectacular-where else for $11,000 can you get all of this? Nowhere is the answer. So look nowhere else and go buy the Accent. Its a winner!
