2005 Ford Ranger

For 2005, Fords pick-up truck returns with only minor changes. Newly designed wheels have been made available, as well as added features to the option packages. The Ranger is available in regular and SuperCab bodystyles, and is several trim levels: XL, XLT, EDGE, FX4, and FX4 Level II. 2WD and 4WD configurations are also offered. Engine choices include a 2.3L I-4, a 148-hp 3.0L V-6, or a 4.0L V-6 producing 207 horsepower and 238 lb-ft of torque. Transmission choices include a standard five-speed manual or optional four-speed automatic. Options on the Ranger include upgraded towing packages, a limited slip differential, privacy glass, a power equipment group, leather-trimmed seats, and a bedliner.

A good basic truck for beginners

Pros Good gas mileage, runs solid, no rattles or squeaks
Cons Ride in cab is not a quite as I'd like.
Recommended it? Yes

I just purchased a 2005 Ford Ranger. It's a basic truck. Its body type is XL and it has a 4 cylinder engine, automatic with air. It has a black nostril bar grille and 15" argent steel wheels. It's my first truck.

Pros Quiet running and and good value.
Cons No grease stock fittings to lube chassis.
Recommended it? No

Bought a Super Cab FX4 model Ranger to replace a full-size pick-up that I no longer needed. Owned it for about one month now with no problems. Very quiet running with desent pep for a compact pick-up. Ford may advertise this truck as a 4 passenger vehicle but there's literally only room for two... Read full review »

Pros Dependable, not bad gas mileage, great truck, mechanically sound.
Cons Requires to be filled up with gasoline when the tank is empty- con is required.
Recommended it? Yes

I've owned this truck since 97 and I've had only minor problems with it. Since I purchased it I've replaced the battery, a heat control valve (17 bucks and I put it on myself in about 2 minutes and I'm NOT mechanically inclined), brakes, tires, uhhh...that's about it.
