PNY 1GB secure Digital memory card a bargain
Pros
reliable and economical
Cons
small and fragile
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Economic bargain choice on a product that's actually a name brand(Toshiba).
The PNY 1GB secure digital card is a high quality memory card. I shoot professionally and use these in my work. I would not use them if there were any dobt in my mind about the performance.
The PNY name may make some hesitate using them, but the cards are basically a Toshiba product...which is a major namebrand and high quality. Even when loading the card directly to my computer for downloads, it will identify some of the PNY cards as "Toshiba".
Trust them. They are reliable.
One camera I use is the Nikon D80 with the 10MP imaging. The 1GB card holds about 133 pictures...even less when shooting RAW format(a high detail recording choice that really eats up memory).
The 1GB cards are great for most purposes and perfect for family and vacation pictures. Shooting weddings and such would probably be better suited with the PNY 2GB card which holds about twice the amount of pictures.
There are some real bargains out ther with these cards with the 1GB cards often priced at less than $40. That's astounding considering a few years ago the 256MB cards were $75+ each.
The locking switch on each card allows you to safeguard the images after shooting so you don't accidently erase the pictures.
The only negative I see with the PNY SD cards is the fact that the electric contacts are on the outside(unprotected)...as opposed to the older and larger CF cards that have all the contact points protected by the card body.
