Starting in January 1999, America began a unique and historically compelling ten-year celebration of the 50 States. Each year, from 1999 through 2008, the U.S. Mint will produce, at the Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco Mints, five different State quarter designs on the reverse side of the familiar George Washington quarter dollar. Signed by President Clinton on December 1. 1997, 50 States Commemorative Coin Program Act provides for the redesign of the reverse side of the quarter dollars with designs emblematic of each of the 50 States. Each will be honored in the order of that State's admission to the United States. Zippo State Quarters Set Volume Nine of a Ten Volume Set. This limited edition set features five black matte lighters, each adorned with a quarter from the United States Mint 50 State Quarter program. Each set is displayed in a black leatherette presentation volume with a brushed chrome Zippo logo plaque. Only 800 sets will be produced this year. To honor the 50 states, the U.S. Mint has issued quarters depicting a unique design representing the history of each state. Five quarters will be issued each year, in the order that the states joined the union. The final set of five quarters will be released in 2009.
