Dissapointing "Big Brother" to TGC650

Pros Extreamly roomy backpack suitable for the largest mobile computers.
Cons Misleading features. Not enough small comparments.
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:

This backpack does not live up to its predecessor and there are other Targus 17" models that are better.

I bought this backpack as an upgrade to a backpack I was wildly satisfied with, the Targus Citygear 15.4" TGC650. If you check out my review of that backpack, you can see why I loved it so much. It was nearly flawless.

Targus 15.4 TGC650

On every website that I checked, includting the TARGUS website, the display photos for both this backpack and the TGC650 were identical. However, this was a mistake by Targus. In fact, there are key differences that really hinder this backpack. In fact, on newegg.com I wrote a short review of this backpack complaining that the stock photos were inaccurate. I am glad to say that as of this review, that error has been corrected and newegg.com has put their own photos of this backpack on their website.

Key features that differentiate this backpack from its predecessor:
Much larger size - Up to 18" Laptops fit nicely
Much longer handle - If not careful, backpack will drag on the floor
Missing mesh pocket in elastic compartment
Missing keyring holder in CD pocket
Missing plastic-renforced book holder in 2nd largest pocket

I needed the extra space, and I do still love the drink holder that can hold either a small umbrella or a 32oz Poweraide. But had I know that these key differences existed, I would have gone for the Targus XL instead. That backpack does not have the CD holder, but it is larger and more ergonomic.
